Parish Councillors are elected for 4-year terms. The current term runs from May 2023 to May 2027.
Buckland Brewer Parish Council may have a maximum of 9 councillors. The Council is the first tier of local government in England and Wales and provides an accessible forum for debating and developing local issues, as well as monitoring the impact of governmental changes affecting all of us.
Meetings are held at least once every month, normally on the second Wednesday of the month. Sometimes, extra meetings are needed to meet deadlines for consultations on planning applications. These normally take place on the 4th Thursday of the month. The Parish Council’s Annual Meeting is held in May each year.
The Parish Clerk is a paid employee of the council – not a councillor and therefore is not required to stand for election. Their role is to advise the Council, handle correspondence, prepares minutes and agendas, uphold governance as the Council’s proper officer and financial controller and undertakes all other administrative duties. The Clerk does not take part in any voting.
