As many know already, Buckland Brewer Parish Council is sponsoring a free community tea on Sunday 5th June to celebrate our Queens 70th Jubilee.
Part of the official celebration nationwide is to commence the weekend by lighting a beacon at 9.15 p.m. (the time is set, it cannot vary) on Thursday 2nd June. Buckland Brewer has applied for, and received, the official status which allows us to do this, as we did on the 60th Jubilee.
As things stand, the intention is for the beacon to be lit on the Amenities Field (by the Village Hall), unlike on the 60th Jubilee when it was lit on the Playing Field to enable visibility across the area, with a community barbecue alongside it.
The Chair of the Parish Council, Andrew Hewitt, will light the Beacon and at present no social event has been organised.
