Pat Blosse has become the latest Buckland Brewer resident to put pen to paper and publish his first novel, ‘The Red Bonnet’. Pat is well known locally among amateur drama groups in North Devon as a playwright and was our Parish Clerk for ten years.
The story revolves around an ex-Navy seaman who finds himself trapped in a supernatural re-enactment of his life. A mysterious skeleton that is discovered 50 years later is far from ghostly; it tells a tale of a violent and bloody death. An overworked police inspector tries to piece together the conflicting evidence with mysterious links to a 100-year old tale of a ghostly murderess. Through the eyes of the sailor, we follow his steady mental decline, but when the abnormal and the paranormal collide it only proves that we understand neither of them.
