Buckland Brewer – 1800-1970: a rural parish and its people.
Buckland Brewer History Group have been working on producing a book focussing on rural life in Buckland Brewer. The finished chapters focus on particular families, properties, or themes such as world war 1, farm sales, occupations, parish apprentices and farming in 1800. The book will also contain shorter snippets and transcriptions from selected records, for example, a timeline of British Agriculture, the 1806 Land Tax, information about the Corn Laws, a list of tractors in the parish in 1937 and details of Bideford market in 1862.
