Yet again we have to ask readers to be aware of the need to keep dogs on a lead and on the designated rights of way,rather than running loose in open fields. Only this evening two German Shepherd dogs have been seen, apparently unleashed, down towards the Glen, causing a potential threat to livestock. Lambing is very much happening and a terrified ewe can easily abort her lamb/s. The lambs themselves are vulnerable. This is a farming community and everyone partaking of the pleasures of exercise in fresh air and the countryside is asked to respect it.
Farmers are legally entitled to shoot dogs, no questions asked, under the above circumstances and the warning has now been given. It’s neither fair on the farmer, who truly doesn’t want this to happen, or on your pet, which is the responsibility of you, the owner.
In order to avoid heartbreak please, please, do as most responsible pet owners do and keep your dogs on a lead, wherever you are. Thank you.
